Well ... it looks like we're going to be here for awhile. It doesn't look like "social distancing" is going to end any time soon (which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on whether you like people). With that being said, we should talk about how you can prepare for something you didn't know was coming and is already happening. (Not like I wasn't prepared or anything. 😏)

Should you panic? No. Should you stock up on a few important essentials? Yes, unless you want to be fighting over that last roll of toilet paper in aisle nine.

Here's a short list of things you might consider:

#1. Get a bidet. Why? Because we are in a mass toilet paper shortage and it's only going to get worse. You can avoid stocking up on toilet paper entirely (and save a ton of money) by switching to this eco-friendly option that is better for you and the environment. It's time to evolve people.

#2. Join a UNFI food co-op and puchase a few organic staples in bulk 25-pound bags. Although we eat a mostly paleo/whole 30 diet here, we commonly keep a 25-pound bag of rice, gluten free oats, and gluten free flour on hand, with a 5-pound bag of lentils, and a 5 or 15# box of dates.

#3. Get a 1-5 gallon jug of white vinegar and order aloe vera gel. White vinegar is great for cleaning and using as an alternative to laundry or dish detergent should you run out. Aloe vera gel can be used to make natural hand sanitizer.

#4. Keep the following natural supplements in your natural medicine cabinet:
Colloidal silver with oregano and olive leaf, vitamin C, zinc, activated charcoal, garlic, elderberry syrup (YES, elderberry, which is an immune-modulator shown to block ACE2 that similar viruses use as a backdoor to enter cells, and destroys lipid membranes of similar viruses), and melatonin. There are certainly more you can get, but these are the big ones that may help in our current predicament (wink).

#5. Avoid having to deal with crowds at the store by automating your grocery shoping. I use Green Chef, Daily Harvest, and Misfits Market in addition to a UNFI coop, and local crop share.

#6. If you get the chance to make it to a store where there's actually food, load up on root vegetables, sweet potatoes, squash, frozen berries, eggs, chicken, ground beef, and foods rich in vitamin C.

#7. Invest in a water filtration system or get filtered/reverse osmosis water at your local water store or Whole Foods Market. Try to avoid plastic bottles and utilize big reusable 3-5 gallon jugs.

I said it was a short list, what more could you possibly need?
