Here are some New York updates.
* Hispanic voters in Mount Pleasant, New York filed ([link removed]) a lawsuit arguing that the town's at-large method of electing members to the town board dilutes their voting power, marking the first lawsuit filed under New York's Voting Rights Act.
* Also in New York, the state Senate passed ([link removed]) a slate of pro-voting bills, such as allowing individuals to provide some food and water to voters waiting in line at the polls, permitting the state to join interstate voter list maintenance groups including the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) and more.
Here are some other updates.
* The office of North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe (R) said ([link removed]) in a statement that the state "will be moving forward" with the court-imposed legislative districts for the 2024 election.
* President Joe Biden announced ([link removed]) six new nominations for federal district court judges, including two judges of color in districts that have only ever had white judges.
+ As Alliance for Justice President Rakim Brooks wrote ([link removed]) , 25 out of the country's 94 federal district courts have never had a non-white judge.
* A hearing was held ([link removed]) in federal court over North Carolina's state Senate map. Black voters filed a lawsuit arguing that the map violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by diluting Black voters' power in the northeastern part of the state.
