John,
South Africa has accused Israel’s government and military of committing genocide. Hearings begin this week at the United Nations’ International Court of Justice.
The case cites statements from Israel’s own leaders indicating clear genocidal intent to “eliminate” and “erase” Palestinians, who they call “human animals.”
Human rights groups have also filed a case against President Biden, accusing him and leaders of his administration of failing to prevent this genocide.
With over 10,000 children killed in Gaza, U.S. government leaders have an urgent legal and moral obligation to stop this unfolding genocide. Millions more lives are at stake.
Add your name to demand U.S. political leaders do everything they can to stop the Israeli government’s genocide against the Palestinian people. That includes naming what’s happening as a genocide.
“Perpetrators of genocide rarely express their intentions as directly as Israeli state leaders and senior army officers have done after October 7,” said experts supporting South Africa’s case.
As Palestinian American human rights expert Noura Erakat explained: “The purpose of the Genocide Convention is to prevent it from happening, not merely to punish it after the fact.”
As the biggest funder of Israel’s military, the U.S. government has leverage to stop the violence.
Instead, Biden keeps blocking international efforts for a ceasefire. He keeps sending U.S. bombs to the Israeli military, to use against Palestinian civilians who are trapped in one of the most densely populated places in the world.
With U.S. support, the Israeli government has killed more than 23,000 Palestinians in Gaza, forcibly displacing 2 million people within the small Gaza strip.
Hundreds of thousands are sick from infectious diseases and malnutrition in overcrowded refugee camps. And Israel’s government continues to deprive Palestinians of their basic needs for survival like food, water, shelter, sanitation, and medical assistance.
According to the Genocide Convention, genocide involves “intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.”
Genocidal acts include mass killings and “deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”
Sign now to demand U.S. officials name this as a genocide, and do all they can to stop it.
Thank you for taking action.
In solidarity,
Rashida
