Dear SPUC Friend and Supporter,
I am writing to you at a time of great anxiety across our country and the world.
The dramatic global developments in response to the Covid-19 pandemic are having a huge impact on all our lives.
I want to let you know that at SPUC we pray every day for all our supporters, committing to God especially the sick and those in need of our prayers. Please be assured of our continued prayers as we navigate the difficult weeks and months ahead together.
Our life-saving work continues
During these uncertain times we are doing everything possible to maintain our battle for unborn babies, while seeking to minimise the risks to our staff, supporters and volunteers. This means that some campaign activities have had to be suspended, while others have become even more important. For example, we are asking our supporters to pray for unborn babies and to follow our news stories and updates on our website, www.spuc.org.uk. We will be exploring new ways of fighting for life under the conditions that we now find ourselves.
One thing is sure: the abortion lobby will not stop pushing for the deaths of unborn children. This is the deadly message on the BPAS website as of today:
“If you have a NEW cough and or a high temperature (above 37.8 degrees) you must self-isolate for 7 days. If your appointment with us is within your 7-day isolation period, please call us to rebook. For safety, please do not attend your appointment at the clinic, you will not be treated if you have these symptoms and you will be rebooked.”
BPAS are the biggest private abortion providers in the UK. They are determined to keep their abortion clinics open and they will continue press hard for full-scale decriminalisation of abortion across the United Kingdom.
We are even more determined to stop them in their tracks. We will not be stopped by Covid-19.
SPUC is spearheading the campaign to repeal Northern Ireland’s abortion law, which was imposed on 22 October against the will of the people of the Province. We will accept nothing less than a complete repeal of section 9 of the Northern Ireland Act. We will not accept any compromises; we will not negotiate over a single unborn life. Each and every baby, whatever the state of their health or the circumstances of their conception, deserves the full protection of the law.
Difficult times ahead
As you can imagine, we are expecting severe disruption to our operations during the coming months, which will impact on our ability to raise the funds necessary to maintain our work. As the economic consequences of the government’s measures to impede the spread of Covid-19 take effect we are anticipating a significant reduction in donations.
We understand that many of our supporters are also suffering financially at this time, but we would ask that you remember us in your prayers as we put financial contingency plans in place so that we can continue to fight for the forgotten victims of our culture: unborn children.
Thank you for your continued support for SPUC at this difficult time.
Please accept my prayers and sincere good wishes for you and for your family.
Yours sincerely,
John Smeaton
Chief Executive
