2023 marked a turning point for affordable housing solutions in California with several bills passed that will make it easier to build in 2024 and beyond. As NPH Executive Director Amie Fishman celebrated these wins in a recent KQED article, she also made the point that “We do not have to accept the status quo of the intensifying housing and homelessness crisis that our communities are experiencing across the state.”

What’s Next? 2024 looks to be a promising year for the affordable housing movement not only because of new laws but also potential new funding sources that could come as a result of NPH-sponsored ballot measures. In the meantime, look out soon for our analysis of the 2024-25 state budget proposal, which will explore how affordable housing solutions are included and what our state budget advocacy efforts will look like throughout budget season.
