Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
We are in the midst of an unprecedented challenge and one of great concern. The risk to life means some extraordinary requests are being made of us all. This is having an enormous impact on finances and our way of life. Earlier this week, I exchanged messages with the Prime Minister. He highlighted that there will be tough times ahead but is resolute that we will get through this.

Rural Vulnerability Day
Before Coronavirus became so prevalent, I spoke at the annual Rural Vulnerability Day about the challenges younger people have in our constituency. High on the list were accessing the jobs market, transport and housing.
Welcoming Pavement Parking Reform
Before Coronavirus dominated Parliament, I welcomed the announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport that our calls for parking reform had been heard.

Bexhill Jobs Fair
Before mass gatherings ceased, we held our 5th Bexhill Jobs Fair. Thanks to the amazing team at the De La Warr Pavilion for hosting. We had enthusiastic employers and exhibitors and record numbers of people through the doors looking for work and training opportunities.
Parking Reform in Rother
Before the Parliamentary timetable was impacted by Coronavirus, I secured a commitment from Government that legislation which will allow Rother to have parking wardens would be brought forward by the end of the year.

Lobbying for Pre-Schools during Coronavirus Outbreak
Whilst welcoming the first emergency financial package for the economy, I pressed the Chancellor to include pre-schools and nurseries in the business rates exemption for the year. The next day, this change was delivered.

Halting Violence Against Shopworkers
Before Coronavirus made such events impossible, I joined the ‘Tackling Violence Against Shopworkers’ event in Parliament. I discussed the recent attempt to change the law (which I’m sponsoring) with the President of the Federation of Independent Retailers. This is an issue for us locally and it’s time we gave our shop workers and owners more support.
I've written about this here:

Supporting our Rural Economy
Before Coronavirus impacted constituency Friday, I joined the Country Landowners Association and Harry and Sophie Wills from the pioneering Beech Estate near Battle. Farming organically, conservation and habitat protection, supporting local employment and bringing in tourists are just some of their many achievements.
Last Bank in Heathfield
Before Coronavirus limited contact, I held a welcome meeting with Barclays in Heathfield. They’ve pledged to keep the branch open for two years at least but it’s a ‘use it or lose it’ situation. I’m going to be holding surgeries there and I applaud the actions of manager, Jade Pake, to reach out to the community and keep a bank on our High Street.
If you would like to arrange an appointment to see me at an advice surgery, please email:
