Public Policy Action Alert

Dear John,

Congress is considering the next federal budget package this month. Still missing is critical funding to connect low-income older adults to programs that can help them afford Medicare.

Medicare is not free, and millions of people can’t afford the premiums and copays. There are programs to help, but too many of those who are eligible are not enrolled.

Tell Congress to ensure Medicare is affordable for all

Too often, older adults who are struggling to make ends meet don’t have a voice. Today, you can be the voice they deserve.

For 15 years, Congress has funded efforts to find and enroll qualified individuals into these programs. This funding has been extended 11 times with bipartisan support and, in a recent Senate committee vote, it received unanimous bipartisan support again.

But the funding is being blocked. If Congress doesn’t act, outreach and enrollment funding for Medicare State Health Insurance Assistance Programs, area agencies on aging, benefits enrollment centers, and aging and disability resource centers is in jeopardy
