Did you miss our latest webinar “They Want to Ban Travel for Abortion Seekers”? No worries, you can still tune in to the conversation about how anti-abortion activists are trying to violate the basic right of freedom of movement for people seeking abortions. As legal battles around this issue continue, it is important to hear from experts about what you can do to combat this human rights violation.
As abortion clinics are forced to close due to worsening restrictions across the country, more people trying to seek abortion care are being deceived by anti-abortion fake clinics. It is important that activists are aware of how to spot fake clinics and where to direct people for real, unbiased medical care.
Find the anti-abortion fake clinics in your area using our Fake Clinic Database.
Self-Care
Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.
Here are our self-care tips for January:
1. Practice Gratitude. For many, it's the time for resolutions and trying to make changes, either to yourself or your surroundings. Sometimes that can be really good! But don't forget to thank yourself for all you've accomplished, created, and loved in the last year. Projecting gratitude inward and being compassionate towards yourself can be grounding as you build out your next steps. – Shireen, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff.
2. Make sleep a priority. Many people (myself included) don't get enough sleep which can be detrimental to our mental and physical health both in the short and long-term. Having a routine around bedtime helps me to get in the right headspace to fall asleep more quickly. I put my phone away, put on some fuzzy socks, stretch, and write in my journal. That routine helps me to create a warm and cozy environment to ensure I'm relaxed enough to start snoozing. – Jessica, Senior Vice President of Outreach
3. Create a plant haven. Plants can help manifest a calming living space regardless of whether you start with seeds, seedlings, teens, or adults. Caring for plants can soothe your desire to nurture something, improve air quality, and be visually appealing. If you get seemingly carried away and get "too" into it, you'll be in good company. – Evonnia, Senior Vice President of Research and Movement Building
