Cleanups on Earth Day are often the first action a person takes on the road to environmental activism. That’s why in 2019, EARTHDAY.ORG formally launched The Great Global Cleanup, which organizes, activates, and connects the global cleanup community to create a waste-free world.

Here’s how you can join us for our 5th year anniversary:

• Find an existing event on our map
• No cleanups near you? Plan your own! Here's a toolkit to get you started, and make sure to register the event on our map so other people can join
• Finally, share photos and stories after your event so we can feature them in our broader communications

This year, The Great Global Cleanup and EARTHDAY.ORG are focused not only on cleaning up the plastic that stays in the environment, but also preventing plastics from ending up in the environment in the first place. Our Theme for 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics and we are dedicated to demanding a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2040 with an ultimate goal of building a plastic-free future for generations to come. 

In a world where environmental issues often become enmeshed in politics, The Great Global Cleanup extends an open invitation to volunteers from every corner of the world, offering everyone a chance to participate in enjoyable and fulfilling cleanup activities while supporting and protecting our shared home.

Five years of impact, five years of fighting plastics, five years of cleaning up our world… Join us this spring, this Earth Day, and all year. Keep an eye on the map and check out the other ways below that you can participate.
