Friends —

I am writing to you after a very important roundtable discussion I had yesterday alongside U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and the leaders of other civic engagement and voting rights organizations in Atlanta, Georgia.

Founding President and CEO of Voto Latino, María Teresa Kumar at Voting Rights Roundtable

Our conversation focused on each organization’s work in 2024 in voter registration and voter protection, safety challenges faced by the organizations and their staff, and the fight against disinformation.

I can’t emphasize enough how much this year’s election is about voting rights and protecting our democracy. Maintaining a thriving democracy depends on equal access to the voting booth. It’s no accident that the very states where voters long dormant are now participating in record numbers are the same where politicians are trying to close access to the voting booth.

I shared with Vice President Harris that we are facing challenges that are highly dependent on building coalitions and investing early to address them. Disinformation is plaguing our communities, and algorithms on platforms such as TikTok are threats to our national security because they are actively undermining our democracy.

The Iowa caucuses are less than a week away. We have a lot of work ahead of us – we need to register as many voters as early as possible because we need everybody to vote in this election. If you’d like to invest in our mission, you can donate at the link below:

I can’t thank you enough for your support.
