WYFF | Veteran’s family fights uphill battle for mental health care after near-fatal crash According to that law, if a veteran has to wait more than 28 days for a VA mental health appointment or drive more than an hour, they're eligible for community care from a local civilian doctor. "The VA does not advertise for community care," said Frank Bullock with Concerned Veterans for America. "They even had a section for on their website that they have since removed. I want to be clear, there are healthcare providers nurses and physicians that work at the VA and they do a great job. Administratively, the VA has definitely been in the wrong time and time again."
