1) How Much Are Americans Willing to Pay to Combat Climate Change? Just $10 a Year
No matter how many times the climate change industrial complex howls dire warnings of a calamity that will destroy the planet, voters aren’t buying the doom and gloom.

A new CTUP/American Energy Alliance poll ([link removed]) of battleground states found just 3% of respondents identified climate change as the most pressing issue facing the United States, compared to the 59% that identified the economy as either the first or second most important issue facing the United States.

[link removed]
What’s amazing is when voters were asked how much they would be willing to pay out of their own pocketbook to fight climate change, the median amount was $10. That’s less than a Big Mac meal in most places. The issue is still highly polarizing. While some voters said they are willing to pay “whatever it takes” to take action on climate change, one-third of voters said they didn’t want to pay a single penny.

The survey also found that voters are overwhelmingly against a federal energy tax – which would hit consumers hard.

Our survey results show that in these tough times, Americans care most about their wallets and their access to reliable and affordable energy, not the radical green energy agenda Joe Biden has embraced.

2) Federal Court Ruling: Free the Dishwashers
Good news: you can keep your dishwasher. At least for now. A federal court has yet again blown a whistle on the Biden administration’s illegal attempts to invade your kitchen (figuratively speaking for now, at least) and ban household appliances.

A 25-page opinion from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals held that the Trump administration correctly issued a rule allowing consumers to choose between dishwashers that take up to two and a half hours to operate but use less water and those that can do the job in an hour.

[link removed]
The court was scathing in its indictment of the Biden "green police". The court noted that many Americans using “green” dishwashers have complained they don’t work well. It found the Biden rules “make Americans use more energy and more water for the simple reason that purportedly ‘energy efficient’ appliances do not work. So Americans who want clean dishes or clothes may use more energy and more water to preclean, reclean, or hand-wash their stuff before, after, or in lieu of using DOE-regulated appliances.”

The Biden Administration is already under fire for efforts to limit gas stoves, lawn blowers, and other popular consumer products.

We hope the 5th Circuit decision will mean the Department of Energy’s new absurd energy efficiency measures set to take effect in 2027 will get scrubbed too. Incidentally, this isn’t just Democrats who are to blame. This move to make mandatory these crazy “efficiency” standards started as a result of the godawful energy bill of 2007 signed into law by…President George W. Bush.

3) Light Rail Projects Cost Nine Times More Per Rider than Alternatives
For the past fifty years, light rail projects have been the popular fad pushed by the green movement and urban planners. Anything to get people out of cars – which the left hates.

But tens of billions of taxpayer dollars later, in almost all cases these trains and trolleys costs are multiple times the social benefits. A study by economists Yadi Wang and David Levinson ([link removed]) from the University of Sydney (Australia), examined the funds spent and ridership of the major mass transit projects from 1991 to 2018. It finds in almost all cases a systematic overstating the ridership and underestimating the construction and operating costs.

The study employs a cost-per-rider ratio to evaluate cost-effectiveness, and finds that alternatives like buses are nine times more efficient – and that’s a very low bar because buses aren’t very cost-efficient either. In some cases, leasing cars for free to the rail passengers would have been cheaper than building expensive rail systems in big cities.

So who keeps pushing these boondoggles? Construction firms, leftist big city mayors (who crave the “free” federal dollars), and labor unions are the biggest proponents of mass transit. Californians may be voting on a higher sales tax to pay for all the high costs of their transit systems. That should be an easy “ no” vote.

4) School's Out... to Shelter Illegal Immigrants
This story sums up Democratic priorities in the Biden era: James Madison High School in Midwood, Brooklyn (the high school Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders attended), is now a shelter for illegal immigrants, while the kids will have Zoom school instead.

And this just in: Montgomery County, Maryland canceled school yesterday because…it rained. Seriously! No wonder our test scores are in the toilet.

5) ESG Is Now Toxic

Here’s our Wall Street Journal headline of the day:

[link removed]
According to the story: “Many companies no longer utter these three letters: E-S-G.

Following years of simmering investor backlash, political pressure, and legal threats over environmental, social, and governance efforts, a number of business leaders are now making a conscious effort to avoid the once-widely used acronym for such initiatives.”

Pardon us while we at CTUP take a little bow for exposing the epidemic of ESG madness in corporate board rooms and helping create this healthy “investor backlash.” Last year we issued our Playing Politics with Pensions report ([link removed]) where the big money management firms were exposed on the pages of ESG with F grades for their proxy voting in favor of radical ESG initiatives. Now these firms are sprinting away from the concept.

[link removed]
Keep an eye out for our report in a few weeks on how state pension funds are voting on ESG.
