Mark your calendar! The new Education Scholarships are coming on January 15 for the 2024-25 school year! This could be your chance for a private school education for your child!
You may remember back in 2020 Governor McMaster announced a program for low and moderate-income South Carolinians to choose a private education for their children. That SAFE Grants program, which was to be funded by federal CARES Act dollars, was found unconstitutional by the South Carolina Supreme Court and never launched.
But, in 2023, the South Carolina legislature passed a new education choice program called the ESTF, for the Education Scholarship Trust Fund.
That legislation sets up 5,000 scholarships of $6,000 each for the 2024-25 school year! These scholarships are not for private education only, there is a host of options parents can use to customize an education for their child!
If your child attended public school at any point last year, and if your family income is 200% or less of federal poverty guidelines, you could qualify for a scholarship. Your child could also qualify for Kindergarten no matter where your child attended K-4!
