If you’ve checked out these two websites — **[Mothers Against Greg Abbott]([link removed] and **[Mothers for Democracy]([link removed] — you’ve probably noticed a pretty striking image on the home page, our modern day **Lady Liberty**.
[]([link removed] we wanted to dive further into the world of **Amitai (ahh-mee-tie) Plasse**, the creative force behind Lady Liberty for both Mothers for Democracy and Mothers Against Greg Abbott.
Ami’s artistic roots trace back to childhood, doodling Star Wars ships and diving into band art, comic book characters, and graffiti art. A prolific illustrator, Ami got his start sketching the vibrant tapestry of New York’s straphangers (aka subway riders). But his story doesn’t end in the Big Apple ...
In 2011, Ami moved to Austin where he quickly became a vital part of Austin’s vibrant art scene. Ami’s early work here focused on capturing the soul of the Austin Music Scene and various creative events around town. As reported in 2019 by *SXSW Magazine*, “In Austin, (Ami) has found inspiration in the energy of the music scene, capturing both the artists and fans he encounters at clubs and festivals through his unique lens.”
Ami’s art can spark diverse reactions in those who encounter his images and it’s even been known to foster some unforgettable friendships.
For our Lady Liberty, Ami drew inspiration from Delacroix’s “Liberty Leading the People,” aiming to unite diverse people for a common cause. His modern reinterpretation echoes a movement that uplifts lives across society, irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, or economic status.
