Team —

We’re beginning what will be an extremely competitive and expensive election
year. The outcome will be determined by the efforts we make as a team, and as
people who believe that together, our hard work will lead us toward justice .

This race will come down to who has the resources to win. If movements like ours
are under-resourced, our range and reach across the country will be limited,
putting us at risk of falling short come November.

Here’s yet another reason why it’s critical that we don’t let that happen :

Texas Governor Greg Abbott just signed Senate Bill 4 into law — making it
illegal under state law to enter or be in Texas without authorization. It's
similar to Arizona's infamous SB 1070, which authorized state law enforcement to
target individuals based on suspicion of undocumented status, even during
ordinary traffic stops. AZ 1070 was largely struck down by the U.S. Supreme
Court.

Just like Arizona’s discriminatory law, Texas’ bill invites racial profiling and
is unconstitutional because it violates the Supremacy Clause. It creates a
climate of fear for anyone stopped by the police and suspected of being
undocumented, including citizens, immigrants with authorization to be in the
U.S., and immigrants without authorization to be in the U.S.

Once this law goes into effect in March, it will no doubt be extremely dangerous
and detrimental to our communities, exposing more people, regardless of their
status, to harm.

This election year, we’ll need all the help we can get to overcome the forces of
hatred. These anti-immigrant extremists are already scheming to rip families
apart, accelerate racial profiling, and undermine due process. Our calls to hold
them accountable are growing louder daily, and we will not be ignored.

That’s why we’re asking you to consider chipping in your first donation of 2024.
Friend, will you donate now to support our work to elect
pro-immigrant candidates in this election year? Together, we can make the
difference for immigrant communities this November.

[[link removed]]The good news is that we the people have the power to tip the scales in our
favor and ensure we don’t revert to the unrelenting attacks led by the previous
administration. We can close the doors on states aiming to draw up and try to
enact a never-ending flow of anti-immigrant laws.

That’s why you, and every person on this team, is critical to our success.
Whether you can add your support today or simply open and read this email, we’re
grateful for everything you do to power our efforts.
