Waterkeeper Alliance Launches New Global Ambassador Program, Welcomes US Civil Rights Advocate and UK Social Entrepreneur

Waterkeeper Alliance has launched a new Global Ambassador Program aimed at advancing the organization’s mission to protect the right to clean water in communities around the world. The program kicks off with two global ambassadors, Rev. Dr. Gerald Durley and Jax Davey, who will use their activist platforms to amplify the stories of Waterkeeper groups and the global water movement’s efforts to patrol and protect more than 2.75 million square miles of rivers, lakes, and coastlines.

EPA Proposes Improved Water Pollution Control Standards for Slaughterhouses and Rendering Facilities

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new water pollution control standards for slaughterhouses and rendering facilities in response to lawsuits filed on behalf of Waterkeeper Alliance, Waterkeepers Chesapeake, and others that resulted in this compliance agreement. The new rules could help prevent at least 100 million pounds per year of water pollution by strengthening or imposing standards on a fraction of the country’s approximately 5,000 slaughterhouses and rendering facilities—a leading source of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in the United States.

Waterkeeper Alliance, Waterkeeper Groups React to Final COP28 Deal, Call on World Leaders to Support a Proposed Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty

In response to the historic climate deal struck at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) today in Dubai, Waterkeeper Alliance and Waterkeeper groups — Bocas de Ceniza Waterkeeper (Colombia), La Paz Waterkeeper (Baja California Sur), Tijuana Waterkeeper (Mexico), Waterkeepers Bahamas, and Waterkeepers Bangladesh — call for all nations, organizations, and individuals to endorse a negotiating mandate for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
