In 2019, Congress voted to impeach Trump for extorting Ukrainian President Zelenskyy over military aid. The Senate failed to convict and remove him from office.
In 2021, Congress voted to impeach Trump for leading an insurrection against the seat of our government on January 6th. Again, the Senate failed to convict and remove him from office.
And today, before a federal court, Trump’s lawyers just argued that he could assassinate a political rival and avoid criminal charges, as long as the Senate fails to convict and remove him from office.
We know Trump’s plans — eviscerating career public servants, purging senior ranks in the military, rooting out political opponents. Revenge.
And now we know that he thinks there are no limits on his power. A dictatorship.
This is terrifying, but it is also a time for courage. We need to do everything we possibly can to make sure Trump is defeated, and to keep the supporters he relies upon the most — people like Kari Lake — as far away from the levers of government as possible.
