While millions of Americans recently made New Year's resolutions, I can guarantee that President Biden didn’t make any plans to change the course of his self-inflicted border crisis.

After all, Biden’s ongoing illegal invasion is intentional.

For the last three years, the Biden Administration has incentivized illegal migration, failed to uphold the law, and diminished our border security. Undoubtedly, the White House’s radical immigration agenda has not only put Americans last — but put Americans in danger.

Under Joe Biden’s watch, more than 300 suspected terrorists have attempted to illegally cross the southern border. Notably, these are only the suspected terrorists who were caught by Border Patrol agents. How many more evaded CBP and illegally entered the country? With over 1.7 million known gotaways since President Biden took office, how can Americans truly feel safe as the open southern border continues to pose a severe threat to our national security?

Unfortunately, President Biden’s policies have also emboldened human smugglers, drug cartels, and other criminals. In November alone, Border Patrol agents arrested 6,422 illegal aliens with criminal convictions, including 83 known gang members. Additionally, dangerous drugs continue to flood our communities after being smuggled across the wide-open southern border. While Border Patrol agents seize thousands of pounds of deadly fentanyl every month, federal officials estimate they’re only able to seize 5-10% of the fentanyl smuggled into the country.

Clearly, Joe Biden’s self-inflicted border crisis is treacherous and very deadly!

So, how can Congress stop this madness?

As the White House and Senate leaders negotiate an ineffective border deal, House Republicans must use the power of the purse as leverage to secure the border. President Biden can immediately address the chaos at the border by adhering to current immigration law, as well as fortify our border security by agreeing to the strong policies in H.R. 2, House Republicans’ “Secure the Border Act,” which is the most comprehensive border package in history.

Anything less than H.R. 2 is a slap in the face to the American people. Yet the President remains focused on advancing severely watered-down border provisions to justify sending additional taxpayer-funded aid to Ukraine.

House Republicans cannot sit on the sidelines while a disastrous border deal moves forward. No more empty words and promises — it’s time for action.

President Biden has a choice: Will he shut down the southern border or shut down the government?

Funding the Biden Administration’s intentional destruction of our nation is simply not an option. Please know that my conservative colleagues and I remain committed to holding the line in the fight to secure the border and put Americans first.

As you may know, the last short-term spending bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), extended government funding in a two-step or laddered approach — meaning funds for certain departments and agencies expire on January 19th, while the remaining funds expire two weeks later, on February 2nd. Since these deadlines are quickly approaching, lawmakers are working to responsibly fund the government and avert a government shutdown. Yet, as my House Freedom Caucus colleagues and I predicted, the Swamp is steamrolling ahead with a foolish plan to continue reckless spending while failing to secure major policy wins.

Over the weekend, congressional leaders announced an agreement on the overall price tag for Fiscal Year 2024 government spending bills. While leaders from both parties claim that the topline spending level matches the $1.590 trillion statutory cap set last year by the “Fiscal Responsibility Act,” the true total of programmatic spending is actually +$68 billion higher at $1.658 trillion. No amount of smoke and mirrors can hide the Swamp’s irresponsible, wasteful, and reckless spending agenda.

With more than $34 trillion in debt, our nation is on a dangerous path to financial ruin. It’s past time for Congress to take this fiscal calamity seriously by significantly cutting government spending — not hiding excessive spending behind shady gimmicks and pricey side deals. Please know that my conservative colleagues and I will fiercely oppose the bipartisan sham spending deal in our fight to return fiscal sanity to Washington.

For years, members of the Biden Crime Family have enjoyed a two-tiered system of justice — shielding their criminal misconduct behind weaponized agencies, investigators, and prosecutors. One of the most prominent examples of this corruption is the treatment of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. While Hunter Biden has shamelessly reaped the benefits of special treatment from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS), he won’t be so lucky with our House Republican Majority.

In fact, House Republicans are gearing up to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena. On December 13th, Hunter failed to appear for a closed-door deposition before the House Oversight & Accountability and Judiciary Committees, instead opting to read a ridiculous statement in front of cameras at the Capitol. Yet House Republicans refuse to turn a blind eye to Hunter Biden’s flagrant violation of federal law — especially when his missing testimony is a key component of our impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

This week, we’re taking action. On Wednesday, the House Oversight & Accountability and Judiciary Committees will consider a resolution and report recommending the House of Representatives find Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress. Please know that I fully support holding Hunter in contempt of Congress for brazenly defying a congressional subpoena, and I remain committed to leaving no stone unturned in our pursuit to hold the Biden Crime Family accountable.

Lawmakers are back in Washington this week, where we will consider the following legislation:

• S.J.Res. 38: Under the Congressional Review Act, this joint resolution of disapproval overturns the Federal Highway Administration’s rule relating to “Waiver of Buy America Requirements for Electric Vehicle Chargers,” which suspends provisions in current law requiring federal infrastructure projects to obtain 55% of construction materials from domestic sources and be completely manufactured in the U.S. In other words, the Biden Administration is attempting to force taxpayers to empower foreign adversaries — such as China, increasing their control over American energy and infrastructure. House Republicans will always put Americans first, fight against sending your hard-earned tax dollars to foreign adversaries, and work to decrease our dependency on Communist China.
• H.R. 788, the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act: Under the Biden Administration, settlement agreements between the federal government and individuals or corporations who break the law can include community service or donating to third-party organizations as an alternative to serving time or paying fines to the government. This allows the executive branch to funnel funds to partisan non-profit organizations, instead of only sending money directly to injured parties or the Treasury for public benefit. To counter this corruption, the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act bars government agencies from entering or enforcing settlement agreements that instruct the offending party to donate to a third party, ensuring the owed funds go only to affected parties or the Treasury
• H.J.Res. 98: Under the Congressional Review Act, this joint resolution of disapproval repeals the National Labor Relations Board’s burdensome rule relating to “Standard for Determining Joint Employer Status,” which makes companies jointly liable with their franchisees for workplace policies including union contracts, scheduling, pay, and other practices despite not overseeing the other business’ employees. We should be fighting to empower small businesses and grow job opportunities to allow Americans to succeed – not imposing more red tape and placing the American Dream out of reach. Therefore, H.J.Res. 98 prevents the Biden Administration’s rule from taking effect in order to protect American workers and small businesses.

Additionally, lawmakers will discuss the upcoming government funding deadlines and the raging border crisis. As I’ve shared with you, I’m incredibly disappointed with the sham bipartisan spending deal, which abandons policy wins and greenlights more reckless spending. I also firmly believe that we cannot continue funding the weaponized agencies that are destroying our nation.
