Sometimes politicians are so flagrant in their corruption that it almost seems farcical.
But of course it isn’t funny at all if a United States senator takes illegal “gifts” (some might call them bribes) while operating for years as a covert agent of a foreign country.
- Last fall, Sen. Robert Menendez (Democrat, New Jersey) was indicted by federal prosecutors who have evidence that he “provided sensitive U.S. Government information and took other steps that secretly aided the Government of Egypt.”
- When searching his home, investigators found at least $480,000 in cash and over $100,000 in gold bars believed to be illegal payments for actions Menendez took — in his capacity as a powerful senator — on behalf of Egypt’s authoritarian regime.
- Then, just last week, Menendez was charged again — this time for a scheme allegedly involving a member of Qatar’s royal family and more bribes of cash and gold.
- And these aren’t even the first accusations of corruption Menendez has faced during his years in public office.
Many prominent politicians in his own party have called for Menendez to resign. But Menendez is refusing to do the right thing.
Public Citizen is calling for Sen. Robert Menendez to do the right thing and resign over these credible allegations of corruption on behalf of foreign powers.

Thanks for taking action.
