Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon!
This week the House will kick off the new legislative year and there’s a lot to get to work on. Appropriations, the southern border, the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, the list goes on…
This week, the House Committee on Homeland Security will hold their first hearing as part of impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Just last month, I voted for legislation on the House floor to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.
Under Secretary Mayorkas’ watch, there have been 8 million illegal crossings nationwide and over 6.7 million encounters at our Southern Border. Secretary Mayorkas has lost operational control of the southern border, as he admitted to me in a recent hearing, and will be held accountable for neglect under House Republican leadership.
On another oversight note, this week at the Judiciary Committee we will consider a resolution and accompanying report to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for defying lawful subpoenas.
The House Committees on Oversight and Accountability and Judiciary issued subpoenas to Hunter Biden for a deposition to be conducted on December 13, 2023, as part of the House's impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Hunter Biden did not appear for the deposition as required by the Committees’ subpoenas. Instead, in a PR stunt, he pulled up to the front of the U.S. Capitol for a quick photo op and public statement without taking any questions from the media.
No one is above the law, not even the President’s son.
The balance of the week will be spent negotiating funding levels for 2024 and legislation to block President Biden from handing out billions in American tax dollars to Communist China. As always, it will be a busy week.
Have a great week!
- Scott
