Hi there --
Amidst 14 states banning and numerous others significantly restricting abortion, individuals seeking care increasingly turn to online pharmacies for medication abortions. This involves safely ordering a combination of two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, for at-home pregnancy termination. [1]
To make matters worse, law enforcement agencies in those states are now using data subpoenaed from Big Tech companies and these pharmacies to prosecute abortion seekers. [2] So your search history, chat logs, and anything else that you send across the internet without end-to-end encryption can be used against you in a court of law.

Meta’s Facebook platform has become especially notable in this debate after they handed over chat logs that were used as key pieces of evidence by prosecutors to secure a guilty plea in a Nebraska case centered around abortion access. [3]
Currently, there are few if any legal protections for people who use internet platforms such as Google or Facebook and seek abortions – a factor that we should all be aware of when considering which messaging or search platforms we use and what information we type into any online platform. [4]
Thanks for reading and for taking action today,
