Dear MoveOn member,
Three years ago, our country's democracy faced one of its darkest hours.
On January 6, 2021, a white supremacist mob of Donald Trump supporters
stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of
presidential power. Five brave Capitol police officers lost their lives
defending the Capitol, and nearly 140 others were left with grievous
wounds—some with life-altering brain injuries, others with shattered
spines.^1
Thanks to years of work, more than 1,200 individuals have since been
arrested for their roles in the insurrection, and approximately 900 have
faced the consequences of their actions, which included seditious
conspiracy and assaulting police officers.^2 In other words: Our system
has delivered some amount of justice and accountability.
But, if Trump wins this year, it will all be undone. We will face a
terrifying new reality: the immediate loss of our democratic values and
freedoms on Day 1, Trump's pardons for the January 6 rioters, and four
years (or more, since Trump never plans to leave the White House) of
fascist "retribution" for pregnant people, poor people, and people of
color.^3
This isn't hyperbole—these are Trump's own promises on the campaign
trail.^4
As the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice warns us:
* Trump has made clear that, in a second term, he would govern
differently than any president in U.S. history. He has hinted at
suspending the Constitution, building vast deportation camps,
weaponizing the Department of Justice, and mass firing career civil
servants.
* Trump reportedly plans to invoke the Insurrection Act, which allows
the president to use the military as a domestic police force, on his
first day in office. Trump reportedly considered activating the
Insurrection Act twice during his presidency—first to quell Black
Lives Matter protests and later to hold on to power after his election
defeat.^5
We cannot let any of that come to pass. But that means we need to come
together right now to defeat Trump—once and for all.
Will you donate $5 a month to MoveOn? Your ongoing support
will help us have the resources to engage millions of people, help
progressives win elections, and stop Trump's fascist agenda.

MoveOn has an exceptional, 25-year-long record of engaging millions of
people across the country and turning them out to vote. But we must ramp
up our get-out-the-vote effort right now.
MoveOn focuses on turning out voters who are already on our side but need
an extra nudge to get to the polls. Our powerful strategies, like vote
tripling—in which voters help three of their friends or family get to the
polls—paid off big-time in 2020 and 2022, with record turnout among groups
that do not consistently vote.
But the truth is that MoveOn's fundraising has been lagging (as is true
across the nonprofit sector), and unless it picks up soon, we'll have no
choice but to run a much smaller program than the one we ran in 2020.
Please make a gift of $5 a month to help MoveOn be able to
run the electoral program we need to defeat Trump once again.

Do you remember the Trump resistance, the Women's March, and how
protesters flooded the streets to protest Trump on his first day in
office? American democracy survived Trump the first time. But we can't
count on that again.
Trump has had years to stew and formulate his revenge. His recent actions
are a stark preview of the lengths he and his supporters are willing to go
to seize power.
As NPR described, "Trump launched the first rally of his 2024 presidential
campaign by playing a rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' sung by Jan.
6 defendants in jail. He frequently refers to that day as 'beautiful' and
says his supporters facing criminal charges are 'January 6 patriots.' He
refers to people in prison on Jan. 6-related charges as 'hostages' in his
stump speech. He has also hosted fundraisers for a controversial nonprofit
group that financially supports Jan. 6 defendants, and campaign finance
records show that his political action committee donated $10,000 to the
group."^6
John, we must stop Trump from winning the presidential
election to save our democracy. Every donation fuels MoveOn's efforts to
mobilize voters and safeguard our democratic principles. Your support is
crucial.
We know that winning the most electoral votes is just the beginning. We
must also stand ready to protect our democracy post-election. MoveOn has
long been a leader in the struggle to hold Trump and his MAGA cronies
accountable.
Within 24 hours of the insurrection three years ago, we launched an
emergency campaign demanding the invocation of the 25th Amendment to
remove Trump from office. When impeachment proceedings began, MoveOn
members were instrumental in rallying support. And we didn't stop there.
We campaigned relentlessly for the expulsion of insurrectionist members of
Congress, holding figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene to account. As we
look ahead to this fall's election, that work will continue.
We're not just fighting against a potential Trump presidency—we're
fighting for the very soul of our nation. We're fighting for a future
where we can live in a country that upholds democratic values and nurtures
hope and opportunity for all.
Let's be clear: If Trump wins a second term, not only will he and his
supporters never be held accountable, they will be emboldened. And that
future we are fighting for will be in serious peril.
Please donate $5 a month and support MoveOn's efforts to
defeat Trump and save our democracy.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to
right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from
their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile,"
filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around
to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will
attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into
2024, we need your help.
