John,
Every single person deserves to live without having to worry about their water and air being contaminated. And yet for decades, tens of thousands of people who have lived near Coldwater Creek in St. Louis have been affected by the toxic radioactive waste from the Manhattan project that’s polluted that river.
Last year, Cori Bush introduced the Justice for Jana Elementary Act of 2023, which would create a fund to clean up and test schools impacted by toxic radioactive waste from the government’s Manhattan Project. Since even before being elected to office, Cori’s been committed to working with residents to clean up the life-threatening Manhattan Project Waste in St. Louis, and has been committed to continuing this work every day since.
Cori won’t stop until all this waste is cleaned up for good and the individuals harmed by it are rightfully compensated.

In St. Louis County, Coldwater Creek was a dumping ground for radioactive waste, increasing the risk of cancer for generations of people playing in the Creek.
When Cori used to live near the Creek, her basement would regularly flood with potentially radioactive water. That toxic waste still endangers the community: A recent report found unsafe levels of radioactive waste in and around an elementary school that sits on the Creek.
Cori’s advocacy has secured a federal environmental review of Coldwater Creek, which is especially urgent now that communities living near the Creek experience more frequent flooding due to climate change.
Cori is a leader on this important issue in Congress, and she’s an environmental justice champion.
Her bill to invest in marginalized frontline communities (the Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act) has been signed into law, and she’s continuing to lead transformative policies like the Green New Deal for Cities. She’s secured hundreds of millions of dollars for public transit infrastructure across the country, along with funding for federal climate action.
