When asked what form of government we’d be given after the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin is said to have responded: “A democracy, if you can keep it.”

Every generation must choose to sustain that democracy through small acts — staying informed, being involved in their community, voting.

Some generations are faced with a greater opportunity to shape the future of our democracy than others. Flashpoints in history like the Civil War, the Second World War, the Civil Rights movement.

This generation faces one of the greatest threats to our democracy in our nation’s history. After an outright attack on our democracy on this day in 2021, the people responsible for that attack will be on the ballot.

Whether anti–democratic extremists like Donald Trump or Kari Lake win or lose will determine whether our democracy survives for another generation or if it slips out of our grasp.

That is why we are asking you to support Ruben Gallego — a veteran, a leader, someone who will fight to defend this country and our democracy.
