Egale Launches New Campaign: Help Us Remain Reveals Dementia Injustices Faced By 2SLGBTQI People

Aging poses a universal challenge, and for 2SLGBTQI people, it comes with an increased risk of cognitive decline. In light of Alzheimer's Awareness Month this January, Egale Canada, the country’s leading organization for 2SLGBTQI people and issues, along with partners at Fondation Émergence and the National Institute on Ageing, has launched the Help Us Remain Campaign to urge Canadians to take a closer look at a community facing a hidden battle. Through an extensive research report, short film and immersive audio gallery, the campaign raises awareness of the need for tailored, inclusive healthcare support to preserve the identities and dignity of 2SLGBTQI people living with dementia.

Egale Back in Court: UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity v. Government of Saskatchewan et al.

Egale Back in Court: UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity v. Government of Saskatchewan et al.

This week, we are back in court standing up for trans and gender diverse youth in the fight against the Saskatchewan government’s harmful school pronoun policy legislation.

School is a lifeline and a refuge for gender diverse students, especially for those who don’t have safe home environments. This is why we have always said that we will use every tool at our disposal in this legal battle — and we are not backing down.

Bennett Jensen, Director of Legal at Egale Canada along with Adam Goldenberg and Ljiljana Stanic of McCarthy Tétrault LLP as co-legal counsel for UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity will be in court January 10-11.

Egale Canada begins 4-day work week pilot project

Egale Canada begins 4-day work week pilot project

This week, Egale Canada will begin a 6-month 4-day work week pilot project. During the pilot project, our offices will be closed on Friday every week. Our mission of supporting 2SLGBTQI people and communities is at the core of everything we do and at the centre of all the decisions we make, and this was no exception.

It is crucial that we continue to find new and innovative ways to sustain our advocacy long term.  One of the key ways to do this is ensuring that our staff feel cared for, supported, and valued. We remain committed to maintaining the same quality of services and engagement in all of the work that we do to inform public policy, inspire cultural change, and promote human rights and inclusion through research, education, awareness, and legal advocacy.

Egale’s 2023 REAL Impact on 2SLGBTQI Issues

Egale’s 2023 REAL Impact on 2SLGBTQI Issues

Egale’s pillars of work begin from community-based research to inform the education that is needed to build inclusive and accessible spaces for 2SLGBTQI people. From here, our awareness programs rise to give a voice to our communities and inform the public of today’s most pressing issues. As more voices are gathered and allies are inspired towards activism, legal advocacy is facilitated to ensure that the work we do is lasting and reflected at all levels of government and beyond. Egale’s 2023 REAL Impact:

  • Research: Completed six research projects with six more continuing in 2024
  • Education: Delivered 2SLGBTQI inclusion training to over 4,000 individuals
  • Awareness: Launched six awareness campaigns and created more than 120 resources
  • Legal Advocacy: Wrote 14 public statements and letters and intervened in five legal cases
