Learn how the nation transformed the Constitution after the war during the Reconstruction period. Along the way, you’ll hear the stories of people who fought for civil rights for all. Friday, January 12 | Noon ET Run time: 20 minutes  Students are invited to learn more about Dr Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech, discuss some of the key takeaways in the speech, and consider what dreams they have for their communities and what civic action they can use to fulfill those dreams. REGISTER NOW Civic Stories: Students of the Civil Rights Movement Friday, January 19 | Noon ET Run time: 20 minutes Join us for a celebration of student voices in the Civil Rights Movement. Together we’ll discover the stories of students who insisted on equality for all and how their actions shaped our constitutional history. REGISTER NOW Professional Learning for Educators Now Accepting Applications for Summer Educator Institutes Join teachers from across the country and engage with constitutional scholars during a weeklong institute at the National Constitution Center in July 2024. These institutes are open to educators working with grades 5–12 at public, charter, independent, parochial, and other schools. The institute is free to attend, but a successful application is required. Funding is available to cover a significant portion of travel and lodging expenses. Applications close on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Notification regarding application status will be sent by Friday, April 5, 2024. 2024 Summer Educator Institutes Building the US Constitution | July 7–12, 2024 Landmarks of American History and Culture: Exploring the First Amendment | July 14–19, 2024 Landmarks of American History and Culture: Exploring the First Amendment | July 21–26, 2024 Reconstruction and the Second Founding | July 28–August 2, 2024 Questions can be sent to the education team at [email protected]. LEARN MORE Separation of Powers Featuring Aziz Z. Huq Wednesday, January 17 | 6:30–8 p.m. ET In this session, participants will focus on separation of powers and how the Constitution set up a system of checks and balances between the different branches of government. There will also be conversations around Federalism and the debate over how to balance the powers of the national government, the powers of the states, and the rights of individuals. Professor Aziz Z.
