This weekend, we solemnly marked the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection.
Three years ago, Donald Trump incited a dangerous attack on our nation’s most sacred democratic principles. Like you, I watched in disbelief as the former president attempted to overturn the results of a free and fair election.
It was a flagrant assault on who we are as a nation and we cannot allow anything like it to happen ever again.
Those who threaten our democracy must be held accountable. That’s why it was so important to me to serve on the January 6 House Select Committee to investigate the extremist attack on our Capitol in 2021.
Through a series of televised public hearings, the Committee explored Trump’s actions leading up to the attack and his purposeful dissemination of false information. Ultimately, we recommended that the Department of Justice move forward with criminal proceedings for the former president. No one is above the law.
I have long fought to protect the Democratic values we hold dear. I have no plans on stopping anytime soon and will never back down from defending our Constitution.
