Friend,
After coming to California from New Jersey to work in film and TV production I’ve witnessed the remarkable dedication and passion of all workers in the entertainment and arts industries. It’s people - our neighbors - that make the entertainment, theater, TV and film industries run, and run successfully.
That’s why, without hesitation, I forcefully advocated to add $180 million to the successful entertainment production tax credit when it was severely underfunded, and why I created a new $150 million incentive for studio construction that is currently building new sound stages and keeping critical union jobs in California. I have also prized and supported local community theater and live performing arts venues as important cultural and economic drivers across California and why I fought for millions in funding to help them stay open, the curtains up and the lights on. I even introduced legislation to provide unemployment to striking workers, like the writers and actors who went on strike last year.
So it warms my heart to be able to announce that the Actors’ Equity Association has endorsed our campaign. Actor’s Equity represents more than 51,000 professional Actors and Stage Managers. In congress, I will continue to support our workers, working families and of course, the arts.
I am honored to have their support. If you haven’t had the chance, would you consider joining Actors’ Equity and endorsing our campaign, request a yard sign and come volunteer?
Be well my friend,
Anthony Portantino
