John,
Hyper partisanship. Dysfunction. Right-wing politicians are more interested in destroying democracy than they are in making it work.
It’s no wonder that so many are losing faith in our political system.
As faith in democracy plummets, so too has our trust in journalism and the news media. A huge reason for that is the total decimation of local news.
Whether it’s TV, newspapers, or radio, local newsrooms have been closing for years. In their place, right-wing propaganda is filling the void with the same kind of untethered-to-reality conspiracy theories that led to January 6th.
The good news is there’s hope. With your help, Courier Newsroom can strengthen our democracy by building the largest, left-leaning local news network in the country.
While the right-wing media lies, the mainstream media isn’t doing much better.
Preoccupied with ratings, profits, and the latest click-bait scandal of the day, national news organizations mostly ignore the local issues that directly impact our lives and communities.
Our research shows that there's a better way.
Through tests and experiments, we've found that when people have access to trustworthy local news about issues that impact them, they are more likely to participate in our democracy.
And that change can have a real impact that defies conventional wisdom and partisan politics.
Just look at the fight for abortion access in a post-Roe world. Even in deeply red states, voters are turning out to support reproductive freedom, especially when provided with trustworthy information and the opportunity to make their voices heard.
Right now, in battleground states like Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, we’re working to ensure voters have the information they need to make informed decisions this November — but we need your help to keep.
