New fishing opportunities at Lake Ogallala

After a successful renovation, the Lake Ogallala fishery is back online with multiple species of fish being stocked this fall and winter. Stocked rainbow trout and tiger trout are currently providing opportunities for anglers.

The improved water quality and habitat conditions made possible by the renovation will provide a great setting for rapid fish growth as the fishery develops in the coming months and years. Included in the developing fishery will be yellow perch, which were also stocked in the fall as fingerlings.

Future fish stockings will also include smallmouth bass, additional yellow perch and supplemental stockings of trout. The North Platte River directly below Lake Ogallala was also stocked with rainbow trout and should provide good fishing opportunities this winter and spring. For additional information on stockings at Lake Ogallala and any other waterbodies statewide, visit our fish stocking database at the link below.
