Dear Green American,

Costco is one of the most popular retailers in the country – but it's got a problem. Its credit card is issued through Citi – the second-largest funder of fossil fuels in the world, the largest American funder of coal, and one of the largest funders of projects that violate human rights and Indigenous sovereignty.

To get megabanks like Citi to transition away from fossil fuels, we need its largest clients – like Costco – to demand change. And to get Costco to demand change, we need you.

Tell Costco to drop dirty Citibank as its credit card issuer, for communities and our climate.

TAKE ACTION

With 129.5 million members – about one-third of American shoppers – Costco is one of Citi’s largest credit card users. Costco has a lot of leverage in persuading Citi to stop funding fossil fuels -- or taking its business elsewhere.

Costco has already made important commitments to climate action, including adopting science-based emissions reduction targets across its full supply chain. Yet the carbon pollution associated with Costco’s banking providers, including its credit card with Citi, is the single largest source of its emissions -- greater than emissions from all energy used in its stores for lights, heating, refrigeration, and deliveries.

You can tell Costco right now to shop for a better credit card issuer by signing the petition.

By ending its credit card relationship with Citi, Costco can keep its own climate promises -- and help compel Citi to stop funding fossil fuels.

We know Costco listens to us – its shoppers and concerned members of the public – and we know Citi will listen to Costco. That’s why we need your help right now in telling Costco to clean up its credit card.
