Dear John,

Whether you’re boiling pasta or brushing your teeth, you trust that the water coming from your sink is clean and safe to drink. But across the United States, an estimated 9.2 million homes in more than 11,000 communities still get their drinking water from lead service lines. This is unacceptable.

That’s why we applaud the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) latest proposal to eliminate lead pipes! This plan is a big step to make America’s drinking water safer, but to make sure it has the biggest impact, EPA needs to hear from you. Submit a public comment now showing your support! With your help, we can eliminate the threat of lead pipes once and for all!

Let’s be clear: there is no safe level of exposure to lead. This is especially true for young children, whose growth and development can be harmed by even the smallest amount of lead. Exposure has been linked to a number of health hazards, including: impaired brain development, learning and behavioral problems and lower IQs.

These issues are often magnified in communities of color and low-income communities that lack the resources necessary to update this key piece of infrastructure. It’s an environmental injustice, but we have the tools necessary to fix it – and it all starts with EPA’s latest proposal.

It’s a necessary step to ensure that every community in the U.S. has access to safer drinking water. And you can help! Take one minute to submit a public comment to the EPA and do your part to protect public health.
