After more than six months of criticism from historians, The New York Times has very slightly revised part of The 1619 Project. The revision concerns Nikole Hannah-Jones’ claim that the American Revolution was fought because the colonists were eager to protect slavery. The Times and Hannah-Jones recently walked back this claim, stating that preserving slavery was the motivation of some of the colonists, not all. It’s a start, but we hope they do more.
