Do you agree that Clarence Thomas must be impeached?
Justice Clarence Thomas has repeatedly been exposed for exploiting his position for personal luxury – including cruises, private jets, and resort vacations funded by conservative donors with their own personal interests in mind. But that’s not his only major transgression.
He’s also repeatedly refused to recuse himself from cases in which he has clear conflicts of interest. His rulings in many consequential cases have undermined marginalized communities, put our democracy at risk, and removed fundamental rights (like the Dobbs decision).
Thankfully, Democrats in the Senate Judiciary Committee have made a plan to combat corruption in the Supreme Court by investigating ethical failures. However, as usual, Republican senators are manipulating the institution in an attempt to slow down the process and cover for their cronies.
It’s time that we restore transparency and accountability in the Supreme Court of the United States. The SCOTUS took a step forward last year by passing a Code of Conduct, but it’s an empty promise without clearly outlined consequences. Clarence Thomas has repeatedly abused the power that he holds. He must be impeached before he can cause any more harm to our nation.
