John,

For the past 24 years, Innocence Project and Midwest Innocence Project client Marcellus Williams has been on death row in Missouri for a crime that DNA evidence proves he didn’t do.

Right now, he doesn’t have an execution date — but that could change at literally any moment. We can’t let Missouri make this unthinkably cruel and irreversible mistake. Will you sign this petition today and then share Marcellus’ story with your friends and family online to help stop his execution before it’s too late? In 1998, a reporter in St. Louis was stabbed to death multiple times in her own home. Two years later, Marcellus was convicted of the first-degree murder, robbery, and burglary all based upon the inconsistent testimonies of two incentivized witnesses, with no concrete physical evidence linking him to the crime scene.

But in 2016, DNA evidence not available at the time of trial excluded Marcellus as the perpetrator, proving he did not commit the crime and contradicting the testimony used to convict him.

Despite the evidence, Marcellus’ life remains at risk. We’re doing everything we can to stop this injustice from happening, but we need your help.

Please, add your name to the petition right now and spread the word about Marcellus’ case far and wide. The more people who raise their voices about this, the better the chances of saving his life. Thank you so much for your support,

— The Innocence Project Team

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism.
