John,

For all the advances the human race has made in science and technology, we still haven't been able to invent a new sin.

EVERY offense against God is a manifestation of at least 1 of the 7 deadly sins: lust, pride, envy, wrath, gluttony, greed, and sloth.

On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we discuss how abortion is rooted in ALL of those 7 deadly sins.

Yes--even gluttony!

Wellington, New Zealand

While sin leads to death, prayer initiates healing.

A Wellington woman told vigil participants that the abortion facility where they pray is the "worst place on earth."

The woman shared that while she had never told anyone, she accompanied a family member to an abortion appointment a few months ago. She was deeply shaken by the experience.

"That place needs to shut down," she said. "I can only describe it as a place filled with utter despair."

Clare, the Wellington leader, said encounters like this are signs from God to persevere in holding vigil. "We are definitely needed at the site where abortion happens, to be a sign of hope for all."

Savannah, Georgia

"Just wanted to let you know we had another baby saved on Friday," wrote Julie, a first-time vigil leader in Savannah.

"A young couple entering the abortion clinic spoke with one of our sidewalk counselors... They chose life and left smiling instead of entering the abortion clinic."

Lakewood, California

Lynda is the leader of Lakewood's first 40 Days for Life vigil, which got off to a fast start!

"My volunteer list keeps growing, and I still haven't had a chance to catch up and enter all the volunteers and their hours [into the vigil schedule]," she wrote.

A local pastor signed up for a weekly vigil shift, which (prior to the COVID-19 outbreak) became a weekly campaign event.

"The best part is that all of our volunteers are on fire and spreading the word to others about our 40 Days for Life campaign, and that's how it's growing!" Lynda added.

But the Lord said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned about that great city?"

-- Jonah 4:10-11

Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of most difficult things you could ask of us. Please remind us that this is how you love and that if you ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do it.
