Dear Lapeer County Republicans,

This afternoon Parliamentarian Bill Hamilton, Secretary Jennifer VanDam and I attended a meeting called by Michigan Republican Party Co-chair Melinda Pego and State Committee Members. The purpose of this meeting was to remove Kristina Karamo as Chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party.

There is much controversy, confusion, and misinformation spread from many groups and people. As a non-voting member of the State Committee, I myself am unclear as to the legality of this afternoon’s meeting.

The State Committee did vote this afternoon to remove Kristina Karamo as Chairwoman with 88% support of the State Committee members in attendance. Co-chair Melinda Pego resided over the meeting during this vote and other business that was conducted during the meeting.

Kristina Karamo and General Council Dan Hartman have declared that this meeting is not legal according to the bylaws, and therefore claim that Kristina Karamo is still Chairwoman of the MIGOP. At this point nothing appears to be clear except opinions. My opinion is that this will be tied up in court for a while, while we wait on a judge’s decision.

This year we face the most important election of our lifetime. Mass confusion like this will definitely hinder our efforts to take our State back, and we should all pray that this dispute is cleared up as soon as possible. As always, I will do my best to keep everyone updated with new information. Feel free to reach out with any questions you have. I will do my best to get answers.

With all of this being said, I want to encourage everyone to stay in the fight! Many great things have been accomplished here in Lapeer County in the last year, and this year I have high hopes for our County Party. Let us all resolve to put our petty differences aside and focus on working together! There is much to do!
