Democrats and their media allies are aggressively pressuring Republican leaders to endorse a $14 billion slush fund, a move they claim is necessary to conceal President Joe Biden’s mismanagement of the migration crisis during the crucial 2024 election campaign.
President Biden himself has advocated for this "Emergency Supplemental" funding, asserting its urgency for border protection. However, prominent GOP leaders, such as House Speaker Mike Johnson, assert that rather than acting as a deterrent, the proposed funding would expedite the inflow of Biden’s economic migrants throughout the 2024 campaign year.
Despite the importance of the issue, the funding battle has been strategically overshadowed by the media's minimal coverage of Senate negotiations on border reforms and dramatic calls for aid to Ukraine and Israel. These negotiations have hit an impasse, largely due to the Democrats' steadfast commitment to preserving their "parole" backdoor at the border. Consequently, Democrats are intensifying their push for the $14 billion.
This funding request, initially detailed by Breitbart News in August, allocates at least $5.3 billion specifically to expand migration. Over Biden's first three years, he and his deputies have already spent billions of taxpayer dollars to import, rather than exclude, over six million migrants into the United States.
The requested funds, along with the authority to transfer additional funds, are earmarked to sustain a network of quasi-governmental non-profits responsible for transporting and sheltering migrants across various cities in the nation. Intriguingly, the request even includes $800 million to operate new "Safe Mobility Offices" in countries like Ecuador, intended to assist more migrants in reaching the U.S. border.
This supplementary funding is sought in addition to the redirected disaster aid already included in the agency's regular annual budget. Years of prior funding have allowed the administration to establish an extensive network of "controlled flow" aid camps for migrants stretching from Panama to New York. This NGO-run migration network, often referred to as the Northside Catch and Release Network, collaborates with cartel-managed networks and works closely with U.S. employers, investors, and advocates of cheap labor.
However, the magnitude of Biden's migration policies in 2023 and 2024 has overwhelmed this extensive network. Squalid encampments in Mexico, budget cuts in New York, voter protests in Chicago, and migrant tents in Denver have become visible manifestations of a system under strain, even as millions more migrants trek northwards in response to Biden’s lenient policies.
The proposed $14 billion funding bill is seen by critics as a covert attempt to navigate the 2024 migrant surge and placate Democrat-run cities. Jessica Vaughan, founder of the Immigration Accountability Project, emphasizes that even with this substantial funding, it won't be enough to conceal the impact of Biden’s migration policies from Americans in 2024. She notes that people will witness the consequences in schools, emergency rooms, housing costs, and other aspects of daily life.
Notably, Democrats are ramping up their demands for migration funding, with Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts emphasizing the desperate need for federal support to address the historic surge in migrant arrivals. Representative Jasmine Crockett argues that the $14 billion would be crucial for struggling cities like Eagle Pass, Chicago, and New York.
The establishment media has joined the fray, framing the $14 billion as essential for preventing a breakdown of the U.S. immigration system. Former DHS official Thomas S. Warrick underscores the importance of the cash injection, stating that the immigration system is already under enormous strain.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre blames House Republicans for hindering efforts to address border challenges, echoing the sentiment that more resources are needed. CNN's Jake Tapper, in a plea to House Speaker Mike Johnson, emphasizes the dire situation at the border, suggesting that the $14 billion supplemental request from the Biden administration is crucial for addressing these issues.
Despite the media and Democratic push, Johnson remains steadfast in his opposition to the $14 billion supplemental bill. His office released a report highlighting that only a fraction of the requested funds would go to Border Patrol operations, with a significant portion allocated to managing the crisis and processing illegal immigration. He argues that the funding request fails to address actual border security and interior enforcement.
As the political tug-of-war continues, the $14 billion funding request remains contentious, with Republicans wary of contributing to what they see as Biden's disastrous open-borders strategy. The debate underscores the ideological divide on immigration policies, fiscal responsibility, and the potential long-term repercussions of Biden's approach. As the nation grapples with these critical challenges, a closer examination of proposals is essential to discern genuine solutions from measures that may exacerbate existing problems.
