On January 5th, 2024, a shocking and discriminatory incident occurred in Parkland and Coral Springs, Florida. The Coral Springs Marriott abruptly canceled a contract with the South Florida Muslim Federation for a family-focused conference on January 12th & 13th, 2024. This decision followed a defamatory article by the hate group Middle East Forum, falsely labeling the entire South Florida Muslim community as "Hamas Sympathizers."

The South Florida Muslim Federation, an umbrella organization representing local Florida Muslims, includes 32 member organizations engaged in various community services, relief efforts, and social initiatives. The canceled conference aimed to gather the Muslim American community for knowledge sharing, addressing social issues, and fostering cultural exchange. 

It is troubling to witness the Coral Springs Marriott becoming a victim of this misinformation campaign, ultimately dehumanizing the Muslim American community. The justification provided, citing 'significant undesirable interest,' implies a surrender to fear rather than standing against discrimination and prejudice.
