Friend,
Today marks the anniversary of one of the darkest moments in our history.
Thousands of insurrectionists overran the Capitol Building, armed with
military-grade weapons and whipped into a frenzy by Donald Trump. A
Capitol policeman and four people in the crowd lost their lives.(1)
And now, three years later, 44% of the nation wants to put the instigator
in power again.(2)
This year is an inflection point, Friend, where the nation will
decide: Democracy or Fascism. Freedom or Oppression. Hate or Love. The
choice is literally that clear.
[ [link removed] ]The fate of our country is at stake in this election, which is why
Courage California has already been working on voter turnout since the
middle of last year. Will you donate to power us through 2024?
Trump has already laid out his vision of his next term.
He has promised to root out the "vermin" who have opposed him,
deliberately echoing language from Mein Kampf. He has promised to fire or
even imprison prosecutors and judges holding him accountable.(3) He plans
on implementing Schedule F, turning tens of thousands of government
employees staffing everything from the EPA to the Justice Department into
at-will employees that can be immediately fired.(4)
And lest we think this is just talk, there is a $100 million Heritage
Foundation effort backing him. Termed "Project 2025," the Foundation has
written a blueprint for a Christian Nationalist government, and is already
recruiting thousands of employees that have agreed to follow Trump at all
costs, ready to fill agency positions from Day 1.(5)
California's electoral votes won't go to Trump, but that doesn't mean we
are a foregone conclusion in this election. We need to flip the 10
California congressional seats and elect more progressive state
legislators who be the frontline fighters to stop a Trump presidency from
going full authoritarian. We need to turn out as many voters as possible,
and convince those voters to talk to their friends and family nationwide.
We need to sound the alarm about Trump's fascism every single day until
November 5 -- before it's too late.
