Hi,

Every single dirty, polluting energy project in the United States
heightens the threat of the climate crisis — Rio Grande LNG is no
different.

Rio Grande LNG (liquid “natural” gas) is a proposed methane gas export
terminal slated for Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley.^1 If it
moves forward, this project will have devastating impacts on community
health, Indigenous rights, endangered species, and our shared climate.

Methane gas has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide
over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere. With this
dangerous project imminent, we must pressure insurance companies to refuse
to insure this project. The future of our planet and impacted local
communities depends on this action.

gas export project on the Rio Grande.

The science is clear: we can't afford any new oil and gas projects if
we're going to avoid climate catastrophe. And local Indigenous communities
do not want the damage that this project will bring to their land and
their health.^2

Despite climate and community impacts and years of community resistance,
Rio Grande LNG is set to move forward. Big Insurers like Chubb, Liberty
Mutual, and Sompo have the power to stop this project by refusing to
insure it and all methane expansion.

Our planet and our health is on the line. We must show these insurance
companies that without halting this project and other dirty projects,
there will be nothing left to insure.
