January 6th, 2021 was a dark day from start to finish.

That morning, insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an attempt to violently and forcibly overturn the results of a democratic presidential election.

It was an attack not only on the foundation of our democracy, but on the lives of so many Capitol workers, congressional staff, and Capitol Police – leaving some families to mourn lost loved ones.

But simply echoing the horrible events of that day isn’t enough.

In the three years since, we’ve held many of those responsible accountable. We've painstakingly uncovered the extent of the attack and the length that insurrectionists were willing to go to. We’ve made sure all Americans also learned the truth.

I’m proud to tell my kids that when our democracy was threatened, we did not sit by in silence.

And I sincerely hope that one day, I can tell them that we did not let this tragedy tear our nation apart – that we learned from it, and that we took action, so it would never happen again .

I remain firmly committed to restoring civility, respect, and integrity in politics. Thank you for standing with me on the side of democracy.
