Three years ago, our nation witnessed one of its darkest days. And January 6th, 2021 is not in the past. In fact, it’s staring directly at us. Over this next year, we will confront, once again, a challenge to the foundation of our democratic institutions. We all have work to do to protect them in the year ahead.
As I mentioned last month,I’m focusing my 2024 efforts on The Horizon Project, which we developed to promote the concept of deep canvassing and to ensure that Yadira Caraveo remains the Congresswoman from our 8th Congressional District. Yadira won last time by less than 1% of the vote. To keep her in Congress, The Horizon Project focuses on using deep canvassing–meaning that we engage voters in meaningful conversations–to encourage them to vote.
Because the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, refused to certify the election of Joe Biden on January 6th, 2021, we cannot risk him being in that same role next year. And in a razor thin race for the House of Representatives, we cannot risk losing Yadira because many citizens did not make voting a priority.
But framing the case for rallying voters behind Yadira as merely a strategy to regain control of the House of Representatives does not do her justice. She’s the real deal. In fact, when I first met her, I was so impressed that I wrote a personal check to support her first campaign. I was blown away by how she, a first-generation American, a doctor, and a public servant to the core, was dedicated to making a difference for others. And, like me, she believes in showing up everywhere and engaging everyone. You can read more about her here. We need to keep her in Congress.
Please support Yadira and my work to keep her in Congress by donating to The Horizon Project today.
