John,
Three years ago, a mob of insurrectionists stormed our Capitol to upend everything America stands for. Under the banner of Trump’s lies of election fraud, they violently tried to undermine the will of the people and unravel the very fabric of our democracy —
free and fair elections.
Thankfully, brave women and men came together to defend our country, save lives, and ensure our democratically-elected president, President Joe Biden, was sworn in.
We remember those we lost and give thanks to those who defended our Capitol and our democracy.
The threat of another attempted insurrection is as real today as it was three years ago. With Donald Trump as the GOP presidential frontrunner, and a Republican Party that continues to enable him and spread his Big Lie rhetoric, our democracy hangs in the balance.
After January 6, with a Democratic House majority, we took a stand against extremism and political violence and opened an investigation into the heinous attack. Since then, every House Republican voted to elect an election denier Speaker of the House. We must retake our House majority so we can continue this critical work and be prepared to defend our elections again if and when the time comes.
Our democracy is only as strong as those who stand up to defend it.
Thank you for standing with me,
– Suzan DelBene
