There's a long post in the blog (Click here to read the whole post), but the short version is:
- Tell the Senate to focus on economic relief for people and communities, not the biggest polluting corporations on earth.
- Keep your eyes on the frontlines. We’ve already seen attempts to arrest protestors, expedite fossil fuel projects, and other climate crimes during the pandemic. Start by signing our solidarity petition with the Wet’suwet’en in Canada and #ShutDownKKR.
- Learn about mutual aid efforts to build an emergency Green New Deal right now in our own communities. Get involved how you can with your neighbors – as our friends at ShutDownDC said: solidarity is the best medicine.
I won’t tell you how to feel, or what to do to take care of your family and community. But in this moment of crisis, know that there are actions to take, and reasons to hope. And please know that this project is here to help you, inform you, and connect you to others doing that work if we can.
These three actions are a first step, and if you send a letter now, we'll follow up later this week with details on how to call, or use social media to make sure your Senators listen. We'll also share more updates (some in that blog post) about attacks on frontline groups happening right now, even as the virus continues to spread.
We need to be vigilant, and look out for each other. If you stay in touch, we'll keep sending updates and ways to take action.
Thanks,
Drew and 198 eyes on the crisis crew.
PS -- Our direct action work is having a moment of crisis and opportunity, but the digital part is more important than ever. Check the blog for a longer explanation, and stay tuned for more emails, posts, actions and asks from us in the next few weeks as we try and skill up the movement and retool out tactics to adapt to our quickly changing times.
