John,
Three years ago, what should have been a straightforward celebration of American governance was disrupted as an angry mob, egged on by Donald Trump, violently sought to stop the certification of a free and fair election at the seat of our national government. Now, he's running again with the promise of pardoning those who stormed the Capitol in his name.
As we get closer and closer to the November election, there's one thing I know for sure: Our country can't risk another Trump presidency.
During his presidency, Trump divided our nation, mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic, and incited a deadly insurrection to overturn the 2020 election. Ever since then, he's remained vocal about his future plans – from being a "day one" dictator to weaponizing the Department of Justice to enact his political revenge if he wins in November.
Our Capitol is the best-known symbol of our democracy around the world. Over the past three years, I’ve heard firsthand how our adversaries trumpeted January 6 as a humiliating sign of weakness and disarray; our allies saw it as a troubling sign of the fraying of our society and our democratic system. While President Joe Biden has been hard at work to restore faith and trust in our institutions in his time in office, re-electing Donald Trump would be a massive step backward.
Now is the time to take decisive steps to strengthen our democracy. I am working nonstop to help re-elect President Joe Biden, protect our narrow Senate majority, and keep our country on the right track for another four years. I hope I can continue counting on your support.
Thank you,
Chris Coons
