John,
Three years ago today, our nation watched in horror as a violent, extremist mob attacked the U.S. Capitol. And as I write you, the man who made it happen is trying to take power again.
What happens this year will be decisive for our future – and for American democracy itself. But that means the people who keep our democracy running – our dedicated poll workers and election officials – will face new, despicable attacks on their safety and lies about their integrity.
Just this week, multiple state capitol buildings were evacuated after a series of bomb threats – part of a worrying uptick in threats against government officials. But let’s be perfectly clear: violence has no place in our democracy, and we won’t be intimidated.
That’s why on this solemn day, I am asking you to join me in rejecting those lies, and showing our resounding support for the committed folks who make American democracy possible. Can you add your name to join me today?
John, I’m sure you recall – instead of accepting the results of the 2020 election, Trump and his allies vilified election workers and made them the scapegoats for his loss. He and his supporters unleashed an unprecedented wave of harassment, intimidation, and threats against these brave civil servants.
But then in 2022, even in an environment plagued by these shameful threats and anti-voter rhetoric, election workers helped deliver one of the smoothest and most secure national elections in modern history.
And this year, election workers will once again make a huge difference for voters – ensuring election rules are followed, troubleshooting voting machine errors, and doing their jobs in a dedicated and nonpartisan fashion. Because of these hard workers, millions of Americans will be able to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
Together, let’s cut through the noise and show support for our election workers. Sign our petition of thanks today >>
January 6th, 2021 should be a wake-up call for every one of us – a sign that our democracy is facing unprecedented threats that we must be prepared to meet.
I hope that in the coming weeks, months, and years we’ll be able to count on you to speak up for our democracy – and help ensure we leave a stronger one for the next generation.
Thanks for all you do,
Suzanne Almeida, Director of State Operations
