Membership Alert: National Police Week Canceled and TOP COPS Awards RE-SCHEDULED Dear Members, The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) has concluded that as things throughout the country continue to grow and more restrictions regarding public gatherings of any kind are being prohibited, NAPO regrets to announce that Police Week events scheduled for May 2020 in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. have been canceled. They have also concluded that the 2020 TOP COPS Awards will not be held as scheduled on May 14 at the MGM National Harbor outside Washington, D.C. Having said that, it is also very important to us individually and as an organization that we honor the men and women who were nominated by their peers and selected as this year’s TOP COPS. NAPO is looking at two remaining NAPO events for 2020 that they already have scheduled, the annual convention in Ohio in July, and the fall seminar in Florida in October to work within the travel requirements for our award winners, whose airline tickets can generally only be changed once without penalty. Since none of us know how long or to what degree of restriction current and future public health regulations will extend, we are going to look at moving TOP COPS to the October 2020 as our best chance under the circumstances. NAPO will attempt to make the change of dates as smooth as possible under the circumstances, recognizing that some disruption in plans is unavoidable. You will be notified of new location and date once it’s verified. Thank you for your understanding. Thank you, and be safe. Very truly yours, BOARD OF DIRECTORS Los Angeles Police Protective League About the LAPPL Formed in 1923, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) represents the more than 9,900 dedicated and professional sworn members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
