Friend,
It’s been three years since far-right insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol as part of a violent attempt to overthrow our government and overturn a free and fair election.
And although our democracy persevered and remains standing tall, the fight to defend our most sacred system of self-government must continue.
We must not forget that every principle our country was founded on was almost destroyed by lies. That the former president of our country encouraged extremists to overturn election results based on deceiftul lies.
Our democracy was put to the test three years ago, and we hardly passed.
That's why as we take today to remember those who lost their lives on January 6th, 2021, and honor the Capitol Police for their heroic acts on that dreadful day, we must also re-commit ourselves to holding those who are responsible accountable for their heinous actions.
It is up to all of us to continue defending our democracy and restoring civility in our politics. We may never be able to forget the events of Jan. 6th, but we can use those reminders as motivation to ensure that something like this never happens again.
Sincerely,
Haley
