Initiative seen as foundation for Innovation Corridor across Appalachian Region to generate tech jobs, develop healthcare, new technology businesses
[link removed]
Gov. Justice announced ([link removed]) that the State of West Virginia and LG Electronics are launching a strategic initiative to grow new business ventures in West Virginia and advance the development of technologies for renewable energy, healthcare, and industries of the future.

The businesses, created by LG NOVA, LG Electronics' North America Innovation Center, are expected to bring 275 high-skilled jobs to West Virginia and spur the growth of new technologies, investments, and economic development for companies and people in the area, establishing the start of an innovation corridor across the Appalachian Region.
Alongside LG's jobs commitment, an investment fund is being created with plans to invest $700 million in West Virginia over the next five years to grow these businesses.

** Gov. Justice announces FY 2024 revenue collections $406.4 million ahead of estimate
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
Gov. Justice announced ([link removed]) that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for December 2023, the sixth month of Fiscal Year 2024, came in at $553.2 million, which is $120.1 million above the official estimate. Cumulative collections for Fiscal Year 2024 of more than $2.766 billion stand at $406.4 million ahead of the cumulative estimate.

"This is excellent news as we head into the new calendar year but is not a surprise as our economy remains rock solid," Gov. Justice said. "Surpassing estimates by over $400 million halfway through the fiscal year is a testament to the resilience of our state's economy. We also continue to prove cutting our income tax was the correct decision, and I am proud that we continue to establish a bright future for West Virginia.”

Even after a 21.25% personal income tax cut, the largest tax cut in state history, this month’s cumulative surplus was led by a strong performance from personal income taxes and corporation net income taxes.

Gov. Justice reminds West Virginians about DHHR transition into distinct departments
[link removed]
The transition continues as the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources undergoes a separation into three distinct departments, the West Virginia Departments of Health, Health Facilities, and Human Services.

The West Virginia Legislature passed House Bill 2006 ([link removed]) during the latest legislative session, reorganizing the current West Virginia DHHR into three separate departments, each overseen by its own cabinet-level secretary, effective January 1, 2024.

In May 2023, Governor Justice appointed ([link removed]) three new secretaries to lead these newly established departments.
* Dr. Sherri A. Young, DO, MBA, FAAFP — Department of Health
* Dr. Cynthia Persily — Department of Human Services
* Michael Caruso — Department of Health Facilities

This restructuring ([link removed]) aims to enhance operational efficiency, concentrate efforts on specific areas of responsibility, and address the unique challenges faced by each department.
